Top 10 MOST annoying phrases!

I was reading through Oli’s blog and got this link from him.

The link states the 10 most irritating phrases but that’s very much relevant only in the western culture. I shall do up my very own…

TOP 10 MOST ANNOYING AND OVERUSED PHRASES!

1. Basically…
(and then followed by something so not basic at all!)

2. Think out of the box
(this has been the “catchphrase” for the past 5 years. If every damn thing done in the last five years was “out of the box”, shouldn’t we think “back into the box” to stand out?!)

3. ASAP
(ARGH!! Yaya~ So overused that asap is no longer something to have your heart beat to quicken three times at.)

4. The Deadline was yesterday
(Gosh. Deadlines deadlines. Every damn thing in our lives now has a Guardian named Deadline who is further gorverned by higher bodies who created all the “Deadlines”. “Deadline”, while usually known as “very dead”, can shift at the whim and fancy of the higher body. Well, because they are the higher bodies.

While, you and I, mere mortals can TRY to create our own “Deadline”, it will be of no use if the higher bodies do not agree with you. You will just have to keep recreating {aka shifting} your “Deadline” until the higher body is willing to accept it as their “Deadline”.)

5. Quick Question
(How is something like “I am trying to download this from the link you sent me but I can’t access the link. Is there something wrong with your link? Or is it because my server has blocked that site? Or perhaps my computer hanged!” I have no idea.)

6. Sorry to bother you at this hour, but…/ I’m sorry, but…
(If you are truly sorry then BUT WHAT?)

7. (omg how can I forget this one) Actually
(Actually it goes like this this this. SICK. OF. HEARING. IT. Doesn’t it just make you feel like you’re an idiot? And consider that when this phrase is overused?! ESPECIALLY IN POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS! “Actually our strategy is to first go with ABCD then follow up with a EFGH”)

8. Gentle reminder
(Ya how gentle is it when you cc the whole world in it while you “gently” remind me? Haha!)

9. As per our phone conversation/As spoken…
(Cover your ass, cover mine. That and the all-important skill of using “CC and BCC”. Turn-off. Reminds me of work)

10. At the end of the day….
(it gets dark. Thank you very much. -_-“)

Nominated ones include:
– Irregardless
– Moving forward
– By hook or by crook…
– Touch base
– Cheers and then followed by Thanks (don’t these people know what cheers mean??!)
– I hope this email finds you well (erm, if not well, then you think I can ignore you?)

Duh!

What say you? Feel free to add on to this list!

I also don't understand why some ppl put "Cheers & have a nice day" as their default sign-off in their emails! So cliche'd. That stupid line does NOT go with every email, eg when the tone is not-so-positive or it's a serious issue, etc.
