Ssikkek Korea BBQ (Novena Ville & Oriental Plaza)

Just when I thought I’ve had just about enough of Korea or any kind of BBQ, last New Year’s eve, on my way to seek out dining places, by some stroke of good luck, I chanced upon what I now call the BEST KOREAN BBQ BUFFET IN SINGAPORE!!

And man, have I eaten at heaps of shitty Korean BBQ places with either customer service that is really shitty or the food is just plain crap (no thanks to all the Groupon offer deals that I’ve been gutting!).

But hey, that’s juice for another blogpost.

So anyway, back on topic.

The place is called Sshikkek Korean BBQ place. What I love about this place (and there’s a lot I love):

– Reasonable Pricing

At $26 nett per adult, including drinks, I think this is worth your money!

– Really Good Food

I love the marinated chicken and pork!! So so good! I eat it with a large (and very fresh) piece of lettuce (trying hard to offset how bad a BBQ buffet is fir my “diet”) and it’s YUMMY.

I also love the Korean stewed soup too. And well, bbq’ed prawns are always good.

There were a lot of other Korean customers as well and they tended to take a lot of the non-marinated pork slices…. Hmmmmm

– Chirpy service

Yeh, I used the word chirpy. I was thinking of calling it “bouncy” service but I figured that would have sounded too weird. There are mostly Korean staff there and I was shown to my table by a very kind looking lady decked in yellow skirt and yellow heels. She walked around with what I can quite safely describe as a bounce. Nice change to screaming PRC service staff!

– Clean and not overly crowded

The only thing I did not like about the place is that we came out of the nicely air conditioned restaurant smelling like…. Well, BBQ’ed meat. :/

But honestly, in SG weather, I’d much rather smell like BBQ than be sweating. :)

This place is a MUST TRY. They have 2 branches. The one I went to is at Oriental Plaza. I will be visiting their other branch at Novena Ville soon. Passed by the Novena Branch the other day and boy, it’s crowded! Looks like that outlet is popular as well!

My family of 6 visited the novena outlet for lunch and the service is horrible. There was this particular petite girl with big plastic frames who doesn’t acknowledge when you try to get her attention and instead tells you off saying that she is attending to other tables first.

No smiles, excuse me, please hold on etc and it happened thrice. The Philipino staffs are pleasant and helpful so we turned to them for help instead after this really nasty girl. The “aunties” there are polite so we were unlucky to get that girl serving our section. Our observations confirmed that she is the sort who doesn’t smile at diners and is just plain miserable working as a waitress. Even my dad who is a really patient man shook his head at her curtness. We won’t be going back there ever again no matter how good the food as there was no service recovery after our feedback.

Might try Chinatown the next time based on your experience :)

Hi Coreen, yes the service is pretty bad. :) Do try chinatown. I find the service, food and atmosphere much better there.
