Cafe Review: Oriole Cafe and Bar @ Pan Pacific Suites Somerset

Oriole Cafe & Bar is quite a surprise. It looks and operates like a bar. It has live bands on weekends but yet when you read online reviews of what people say about them, you will hear them raving all about the Fish & Chips – how it’s one of the best in Singapore, and their coffee ieatishootipost actually says they are possibly serving one of the best coffee in Singapore. I also read about how their Beef Cheek Tagliatelle is also a must-try dish.

So you can understand my confusion when I thought I have never been to Oriole when actually I have. I went in there for the live band and a beer. I just didn’t know how well known they were for coffee and food! -.-

So imagine my surprise when I went around looking for Oriole at 313 Somerset and found myself entering the cafe/bar that I was just at a couple of months back.

I wasn’t very hungry and I am currently vegan so I didn’t manage to try much. Here’s what I got:

Caesar Salad (baby romaine, bacon, garlicky croutons, shaved parmesan) – S$11 . This dish is nothing to shout about. It’s very ordinary.

Shu Fen ordered a Prawns Bruschetta (garlic prawns, tomato, basil, extra virgin olive oil)

– S$10 and it was really good.

I also decided to try their coffee and ordered a cuppa Chilli Chocolate Mocha (double ristretto, fresh chilli juice, chocolate, steamed milk) – S$6. My first thought as the waitor recommended me this was “OMG, there is chilli in there?? You sure it’s good?” Hahaha I think I frightened him a little but I did go for this and it was good. :) It was interesting good. I could only taste a tiny tinge of chilli in there.

The other girls I was with ordered the Spaghetti Prawns Pasta (garlic, chilli, tomato, arugula). They said it was good but a little salty.

Aileen ordered a Warm Portobello Mushroom Salad (arugula, parmesan, tomato salsa, pinenuts) which looked really good event hough it only came with 2 mushrooms.

The bill for the 5 of us came up to $125.xx. That’s about $25 per person for food, drinks and a very nice long chit chatting environment for a Friday evening. I’ll definitely be back for the nice atmosphere and good service (nobody made us feel like we had to leave soon) and of course, all the highly recommended food items that I haven’t tried!
